Little Leaps From Leapfrog

Giant served as Leapfrog's authoring and engineering partner for the development of this new franchise product. We helped engineer the functionality of a specialized remote control for the product, creating a process that is unique in the DVD marketplace.

Little Leaps - Thomas and Friends

For more than a year, we worked closely with Leapfrog toward the groundbreaking launch of the new product, which included five interactive DVDs.

The results were well received.

"For toddlers, this is a terrific way to introduce educational entertainment," wrote technology columnist Jinny Gudmudsen in USA Today. "The Little Leaps content is charming, funny, and interactive. For babies, you should see this system as a tool to widen your baby's world."

Giant partnered with Leapfrog to develop the key technical components from the ground up and then designed a special authoring process to address the many challenges this new product created. Giant also provided editing, audio mixing and color-correction for the creative components of the product.

Giant is a leader in development of new formats and was an early leader in developing for the Sony UMD format. For this project the challenge was to adapt the Abkco Records release for a new generation of fans. The menus were designed and scripted to create an interactive experience that added another layer of excitement to the finished product. At the same time the audio and video was carefully encoded for the Sony PSP screen. The end result was spectacular!

The Sopranos: The Complete Series

Giant Whacks the Ultimate Sopranos Collection

Giant Interactive completed authoring on HBO’s highly anticipated DVD gift set: The Sopranos-The Complete Series, the highest rated and most-lauded show in cable history.

"The Sopranos - The Complete Series" Gift Set

“This is, without a doubt, the nicest complete series set I've seen all year.”
- Gord Lacey, tvshowsondvd.com

With 86 episodes on 28 DVDs, this baby weighs in at over 10 pounds. Adding even more depth are two discs crammed with bonus: Sopranos spoofs from The Simpsons, Saturday Night Live and Mad TV, sixteen "lost" scenes, auditions from some of the cast, an interview with creator David Chase by Alec Baldwin and secrets from the writer's room. There's also a panel discussion from the Paley Center for Media among "Whacked Sopranos" actors reflecting on their regrettable but necessary exits.

To accomplish this oversize task, HBO turned to the expertise of Giant Interactive. Newly mastered content was delivered to Giant’s New York studio where compression and authoring was provided. The planning and logistics of the project required extensive collaboration between HBO and Giant.

“With a project this big, hitting the deadline really hinged on teamwork, not just within Giant but with the different groups at HBO Video. They were frequent visitors that really took an interest in every aspect of the workflow,” stated Jeff Stabenau, Giant Interactive President. “It's particularly fulfilling to see the final product looking so impressive on the shelves after all the hard work everyone put in.”
